OUR STORY
Handmade From Thailand

From gunny sacks to tote bags and placemats

Gunnio, also known as jute or burlap, is a versatile fabric derived from Corchorus olitorius and Corchorus capsularis or the jute plants with a rich history dating back to the 16th century where the Mughal dynasty ruled India.

The jute plants are native to the Indian subcontinent and grown year-round. Not only do jute plants need little to no intervention to grow and replenish, but jute cultivation in crop rotations also helps enrich the fertility of the soil for the next crop. The jute fabric is 100% biodegradable and recyclable, so jute is arguably eco-friendly and sustainable.

GOLDEN FIBRE

The jute fabric plays such an essential role in global fibre production; it is widely recognized and referred to as the “golden fibre” for its shiny golden colour, softness, and durability that can be adapted for different styles and purposes.
